Sarah's core values are wonder, justice, community, and adventure. The corporate world made her feel like she had to hide those parts of herself, fit the mold, be "buttoned-up." She watched good people morph into overworked perfectionists who forgot they were multi-faceted humans.
She wanted to believe she could do meaningful work without sacrificing who she was. That her work could complement her life, not consume it. That she could show up fully. And she suspected other visionary leaders wanted to do things differently, too.
One of her favorite books is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, where the main character Santiago embarks on a journey seeking his "personal legend”: his purpose and destiny. He learns that the real treasure is the growth found in the journey itself, and trusting his own intuition even in the face of uncertainty. We bring that spirit into everything we do.
When it came time to name the business, Sarah kept coming back to the juniper tree: a tree that grows on the side of a mountain where nothing else can. Despite the elements, it adapts, even thrives, in scarcity. It flourishes quietly, with beauty and wisdom. That tension captures what we bring to our work: perseverance and heart, fearlessness and intention.

I'm also a corporate dropout. I have a master's in global social work and spent 16 years in social impact work across nonprofit, public sector, and corporate clients. I was doing good work, but I felt disconnected from the heart of it. Working at a massive consulting firm had its advantages, but I wanted to show up for my clients in a more personal and connected way.
I knew early on I was called to social justice. My years of living and working at NGOs in Central America, Uganda, and Cambodia only deepened that. I still spend part of each year working abroad and love to connect with leaders and organizations around the world.
Eventually I decided to do good differently. That's how Juniper Collective came to be: a home for social impact leaders who care deeply and want to create change through innovation and creativity.
I've helped start two nonprofits and two small businesses, so I know what it takes to build something from nothing. I'm just as comfortable setting vision as I am in the weeds getting things done. And what I hear most from clients? That I actually care - and they can feel it.
